Blush – The Book
April 27, 2009 by rachelshemilt

These are just a few images of my blush book.
The first part of the book features text which explains the ideas involved with blushing. In this section I also explain what it is that I have done in terms of my visual experiments.
The second part of the book shows the clothing scans in the colour scale, with each shade becoming more intense and each item changing to a more personal, exposed piece of clothing.
The final part of the book applies this colour scale to quotes received from a questionnaire about blushing and the links between quotes, pieces of clothing and shades of colour can be seen.
All the work
April 27, 2009 by rachelshemilt

This is all of my work that I have produced for the EMP and I am really proud of it. I have a variety ranging from sketchbooks to mock ups to research. I covered my sketchbooks with my clothing experiments. Each sketchbook gets progressively darker to show the progression of ideas and the development of my work.
The work that is shown in clear files was put specifically in these to imitate the idea of blushing and how it begins to show through and appear on your cheeks.
The end of EMP….

It’s finally here! Hand in day….. Posts on here have been sparse but it is because I have been working immensely hard in order to produce my final outcome, along with all my supporting work for the EMP. And I have finally finished! Literally just this second…. thank goodness for energy drink!
Sawdust

I really like the photography used by Sawdust in their portfolio pieces. This has given me some ideas for my own portfolio design.
Improving typography
April 7, 2009 by rachelshemiltFound this article today about ways to improve typography. I thought this may be helpful as I am starting to write the text for my book design and hints on how to improve simple elements are always handy!
Blushing Blog
April 4, 2009 by rachelshemiltI found a blog about how to cure blushing. It has an interesting video featured on it about how to stop blushing.
The video describes blushing as a ‘vicious circle’ and shows steps in how to deal with blushing. One of the steps describes how you should accept blushing as part of you. It shows the woman looking into the mirror and accepting her blushing. This backs up my idea I have for my book where the end sequence of blushing will hold a small mirror in the page and the viewer will be able to see themselves reflected in the deepest colour of the blush process.
The clothing scale
April 2, 2009 by rachelshemiltMy clothing scale to represent blushing will go from outerwear to underwear, from pale pink to deep red. The idea of this is that as you undress you become more exposed and this reveals more of you. Thus the blush is revealed. I thought about having sections within my book in order to define the stages of blushing but I didn’t think that this would accurately represent the process of blushing. So I intend on showing the change of blushing in a subtle way and allowing the viewer to experience the change in the process themselves.
Clothing – A metaphor for blushing
March 29, 2009 by rachelshemiltI have been scanning as many pink and red items of clothing I can find today! I have experimented with tipping my scanner around to create different effects and, depending on the garment, this can work well or look like a normal scan. I have decided to use clothing as a metaphor for blushing. Each garment will relate to a particular stage of blushing and a particular shade of blush as well.
